Under the direction of the City Attorney, oversee the City Prosecutor's Office. Manage the prosecutorial team and prepare and prosecute cases in the Delaware Municipal Court, including all violations of the City Charter, ordinances, and Ohio statutes. Assist the City Attorney in civil matters as needed. This position has a high degree of autonomy and works directly with multiple agencies including law enforcement, courts, and administration. This position may be required to attend City meetings outside of regular office hours.
Plan, organize and direct activities of the Prosecutor's Office.
Carry out all operations of the Prosecutor's Office by maintaining, enforcing and improving policy and procedures within the department.
Develop and manage work plans for self and staff that focus on meeting goals and objectives.
Maintain docket of criminal cases by preparing cases for trial, negotiating plea agreements, conducting trials and pretrial hearings, and preparing written motions, pleadings, arguments, and other memoranda.
Manage personnel by recommending staffing levels, hiring new employees, providing and overseeing training programs, developing and implementing work performance standards, evaluating work performance and addressing performance not meeting expectations.
Meet with and advise the City Attorney and City staff on legal, administrative, and operational matters impacting the City.
Draft legislation and local ordinances.
Research issues affecting City government and writes legal memorandums as assigned.
Participate in ongoing legal education to remain current on criminal and civil law.
Work on civil projects assigned by City Attorney including legal research, drafting, and reviewing documents as needed.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, and a Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a criminal prosecutor.
Progressive management responsibilities experience of other attorneys and administrative staff.
Demonstrated courtroom and criminal and jury trial experience.
Demonstrated adherence to appropriate rules of professional and ethical conduct as set forth in the Code of Professional Responsibility, or as otherwise prescribed by law or generally accepted professional standards.
Demonstrated brief writing experience and clear, concise writing style.
Must be a member, in good standing, of the bar of the State of Ohio.
